“Blood Connects Us All”- Mega Blood Donation Camp organised by DEPwD & NACO
The 1st Joint Working Group meeting formed at the National Level was held at Directorate of Empowerment of Persons with Disability on 29th September 2016. The outcome of the meeting resulted in a decision to organise a Mega Voluntary Blood Donation Camp at Delhi. The decision was taken to involve all stakeholders of DEPwD and NACO.
To commemorate World AIDS Day, the Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organised at Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute for the Physically Handicapped (IPH), Vishnu Digamber Marg, New Delhi on 1st December 2016 from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Hon’ble Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot inaugurated this event. Sh. N.S. Kang, Secretary, Sh. Awanish K. Awashthi, Joint Secretary & CVO, DEPwD; Dr.ShobiniRajan, Assistant Director General & Director National Blood Transfusion Council-NACO and Dr. Bharat Singh, Director Delhi State Blood Transfusion Council were present for the event.
More than 1500 youths participated in the event. 550 persons got themselves screened and counselled for Blood donation out of which 214 Units of blood was collected.
Medical and Para-medical staff from the Blood Banks of six hospital provided their support for the event, which were, Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital, DeenDayalUpadhyay Hospital, Safderjung Hospital, Guruteg Bahadur Hospital and AIIMS. Indian Red Cross Society and other agencies also provided support in organising the camp.
As a token of appreciation, T-Shirts and Mugs were given to the donors.
