National AIDS Control organization (NACO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India periodically undertakes HIV estimation process to provide the updated information on the status of HIV epidemic in India. First HIV estimation in India was done in 1998 while last round was done in 2015. India HIV Estimates 2017, current round in the series, will provide current status of HIV epidemic in country and States on key parameters of HIV prevalence, new infections and AIDS related mortality.
Under HIV Estimations 2017, “Expert Consultation-Cum-Capacity Building Workshop” was organized by NACO’s Surveillance division from 16-19 August 2017 atDr. Ramalingaswami Board Room, AIIMS, New Delhi. The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Sanjeeva Kumar, Additional Secretary& Director General, National AIDS Control Organization (NACO). The workshop was also honored with presence of Padma ShriDrRandeepGuleria, Director, AIIMS. The Country Director from UNAIDS as well as senior officials from CDC-DGHT India, WHO India, USAID India and FHI360 also attended the workshop. The trainers for the workshop were the leading resources in the field of HIV Modelling and Estimations and included Dr John Stover (Avenir Health), Dr Keith Sabin (UNAIDS Geneva), Dr TaoufikBakkali(UNAIDS, Regional Support Team, Asia-Pacific) and Dr WiwatPeerapatanapokin (East West Centre, Hawaii). The trainee included representative from NACO, Regional Institutes, State AIDS Control Societies as well as partners. Organization of the workshop was supported by UNAIDS India, CDC-DGHT, WHO India and USAID India through FHI360.
